And the chain
Not included, it determines the hanging length: 50 cm near the collarbone, 55 to 60 cm on the sternum, 65 cm and longer for a low drop. A 3-inch piece on a thin chain will sag and strain the clasp.

No, the number is sold individually, on an integrated bail. A large men's gold pendant requires a thick link: it is the chain that will yield.
What size should I give without knowing the person's taste?
The 1.5-inch format is the safest: visible without being flashy, and it is the most forgiving if you choose the wrong chain. If the person already wears statement jewelry, go for 2 inches.
Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?
